What is NRC?
National Register of Citizens or abbreviated as NRC is a registry containing names of all the people who qualify to be Indian Citizen.The main purpose of this registry is to identify foreign nationals in India. There are certain conditions which have to be fulfilled to finally get entry in the NRC. Until now, it has only been applied in Assam but on 20th November 2019, India’s Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah proposed a nationwide implementation of this registry however It is not yet declared as to what changes (if any) will be made in the nationwide NRC.
What is CAA?
Citizenship Amendment Act proposes that people will be given Indian Citizenship if they fulfill the following conditions:
– They must be from Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh.
– They must have entered in India on or before December 31, 2014
– They must belong to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian community
