Today we’re going to look at all the Tense with examples and learn how to use all tense with examples in English Grammar. Tenses are too important for English learners. and In this exciting article, we study all the tense with examples.

Let’s discuss Tense with examples:
1.(a) Present Simple Tense with Example
The Present Simple tense indicates A fact, routines or habits, or a regular action
Fact: She is a Content writer. She writes blogs.
OR
Water boils 100 degrees C.
Routines/Habit: She always writes at the night.
OR
I play football every Monday. (This is a routine something you do every Monday. so, you used the Present Simple Tense)
Regular action: She writes 200 articles a year.
OR
I live in London. (This is a permanent/regular situation and no one is likely to change anytime soon. so, you used the Present Simple.)
(b). Present Continuous Tense with Example
It demonstrates a temporary action in progress at present.
In simple words, It is used for something temporary that is happening now.
For instance,
She is currently writing a new blog. (So, the action is happening now)
OR
I’m having my lunch. (So, it’s happening now).
Temporary situations: I’m staying with a friend for 1 week. (So, this is telling you, the situation is not permanent, it’s just for 1 week, it’s a temporary situation, so used Present Continuous.
(c). Present Perfect Continuous Tense With Examples
This is about an action that has already started and is still going on
In simple words
This tense show action in progress
For instance,
She has been writing blogs for over 15 years.
OR
I’ve been painting the kitchen. (So, here we focused on activity that is unfinished, and the focus here is on the action of painting, so, action is unfinished so, here we used Present Perfect Continuous.
(d). Present Perfect Tense with Example
It indicates a completed action but there is no time specified in the past
In simple words,
It is used for actions or situations happening until now, usually not finished.
For instance,
She has already written 20 blogs. ( her action is completed, without saying exactly when?
2.(a) Past Tense with Example
It is used for finished action in the past, usually with a time reference.
For instance,
I lived in Europe for 7 years. (this means it’s now finished, you are no longer living in Europe, okay)
The past Simple is also used for past actions that are in chronological order
For instance,
I got up, had a shower, then left for work. (These are all past actions in chronological order, in the order in which they happened so, you used the past simple)
(b). Past Continuous Tense With Example
Action in progress in the past:
- when a shorter action took place
- at a very exact moment
For instance,
She was writing that blog when she became ill.
Past Continuous is also used for parallel action in the past.
For instance,
I was reading while she was making lunch.
(here are two actions that are going on at the same time and as you can see in the timeline so, the reading is happening at the same time as she was making lunch. so, here we used the Past Continuous)
Past Continuous tense is also used for interrupted actions in the past
For instance,
She was having a shower when the doorbell rang.
(so, here you can see the timeline again, She was having a shower and it was interrupted by the doorbell ringing so, it is interrupted action so, here we also used the Past Continuous)
Past Continuous is also used to show that something continued for some time.
For instance,
Everyone was singing.
OR
for something that happened that again and again
For instance,
I was practicing dance every day, three times a day.
(c). Past Perfect Tense with Example
Action that was completed in the past either:
- before another action took place
- before a very exact moment
For instance,
She had written that blog before she became ill.
(d). Past Perfect Continuous Tense with Example
Actions that had started continued for some time and was still in progress in the past:
- before another action
- before a very exact moment
For instance,
She had been writing that blog for a few months when she became ill.
3 (a). Future Simple Tense with Example
This tense is used to demonstrate or describe an action that hasn’t happened yet.
For instance,
I’m going to the shop.
She is going to buy some clothes.
- A decision at the time of talking/speaking ( it is used mainly in diallogues, and in contracted form)
For instance,
Someone says, Tina called earlier. She wants you to call her back.
So, reacting to this sentence the listener will say, Ok I’ll call her as soon as I can.
(b). Future Perfect Tense with Example
It is used to demonstrate an action that will be completed before a specified time.
For Instance,
I will have finished my project by tomorrow morning.
He will have worked as a teacher for 2 years by the end of this year
(c) Future Continuous Tense with Example
It is used to describe an action that will occur and will continue for a set period of time in the future.
For Instance,
I will be going to work tomorrow at 7 am.
He will be moving house next month.
(d) Future Perfect Continuous Tense with Example
It is used to describe an action that will continue up until a point in the future.
For Instance,
I will have been cleaning the house for 2 hours when he arrives home.
By 8 pm he will have been completing his homework for 3 hours.
